Vegetarian JournalExcerpts
Jan/Feb 1998
|
Thank you for your wonderful Journal. I have been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for five years and am trying to become vegan.
The "Baked Tofu Nuggets" from the September/October 1997 issue were delicious. Even my husband (who is not a vegetarian) loved them!
The "Carob Devil's Food Cake" from Recipes from an Ecological Kitchen by Lorna Sass was wonderful, just as Joann Farb's article stated. We found it to be very moist and delicious, far better than any other I have tried.
The lunch ideas in the "Vegetarianism in Educational Settings" were wonderful.
I run 3-5 miles several days per week and your journal gives me great recipes
to keep me healthy, happy, and satisfied!

Kudos for the VRG Web Site
I just wanted to thank you so much. Your Website answered all of my questions.
I am 16 and I am becoming a vegetarian. First I just increased all my veggies
(I already eat lots of fruits and grains) and started trying to make meals
without meat. Now I've almost cut it out completely. Your site helped me
to learn how much protein I need in a day. Now that I'm eating all this good
food, I never even feel like eating chocolate or candy, and when I do, I
find that it tastes really harsh.
If I ever have more questions, I'm coming to you guys! Thank you so
much!

Your Stamp of Approval Is Needed
In an effort to convince the U.S. Postal Service to issue a Spay/ Neuter
stamp, I've contacted them and discovered that such a stamp meets all their
requirements.
They receive 40,000 requests for commemorative stamps per year; so this campaign needs a lot of letters!
Please encourage your readers to write, simply requesting a first class, Spay/Neuter stamp to:
Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee
c/o Stamp Management
U.S. Postal Service
475 L'Enfant Plaza SW,
Room 4474 E
Washington, DC 20260-2011
Maybe we can draw the public's attention to the tragedy of cat/dog overpopulation
with the issuance of a Spay/Neuter stamp.

Veggie Verse
Hi! I'm 13 years old and I have enclosed a poem that I recently wrote about
my feelings about vegetarianism. I hope you will enjoy reading it and will
consider it for publication in Vegetarian Journal.
Love and peace,

Vegetarianism
Why be a vegetarian?
So many people say
Why be a vegetarian?
I hear it every day
There are so many reasons
I yell and scream and call
To stop eating your friends
Helps bring peace to one and all
It's really quite good
To cut back on eating fat
And think about equality
Next time you pet your cat
Maybe this will make you
Try vegetarian living
If you do I think you'll find
It's full of peace, care and giving
