Natural foods/macrobiotic. Mustard Seed Market is one of the largest natural foods stores in the Midwest. The restaurant located in the store offers great natural foods dishes. There's a strong emphasis on vegetarian dishes, including macrobiotic and vegan meals, but some seafood and poultry are also served. Mustard Seed Market emphasizes organic foods and has the best produce department in town. Open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner, Sunday dinner only. Mexican/international. This worker-owned restaurant obtains its produce and food ingredients from local farmers and has a rotating seasonal menu. Breakfast options include The Vegan Scrambler, soysage (made on the premises), and tofu bacon. They have burritos, enchiladas, tacos, and other traditional favorites. All dishes can be made vegetarian by substituting marinated tofu. They also offer salads and eight kinds of salsas. Open daily for three meals. Vegetarian cafe. Tabor's Thyme Café serves a diverse selection of multi-cultural dishes. They note on the menu which items are vegan and which can be made vegan. Menus change daily, but past menu items have included Walnut-Lentil Burgers, Tamales, Lentil Stew Magyar, Nut Steak with Mushroom Gravy, Wheatberry Salad, and Hoppin' John. Vegetarian. The King Avenue Coffeehouse offers fresh coffee, vegetarian cuisine, and strives to serve organic fruits and vegetables whenever possible. They note on their menu, which of the dishes are vegan and vegetarian, as well as which have common allergens, such as wheat, corn, and nuts. They offer Vietnamese Spring rolls, made with tempeh, rice noodles, and bean sprouts, served with a plum peanut dipping sauce. The have a Sunday Night Bistro, where you can try butternut squash bisque, vegetable scramble, and soba noodles in miso broth. Their side dishes include seitan, tempeh, tofu, rice noodles, fresh fruit, blue corn chips, and salsa. They also have a juice bar and coffee from local roasters.
