And then there are\nmilks based on seeds like sesame, flax, and hemp. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are so many, many kinds of nut\nand seed milks. Thanks to VRG intern Laneece Hurd who collected and organized\ninformation so that it\u2019s not overwhelming. To see detailed information about\neverything from the number of calories to how much vitamin B12 is added, to\nwhich sweeteners are used in many brands of nut and seed milks available in the\nU.S., go to this helpful table <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vrg.org\/nutrition\/milk_alternatives\/nut_and_seed_milk_table.pdf\">https:\/\/www.vrg.org\/nutrition\/milk_alternatives\/nut_and_seed_milk_table.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Generally speaking, nut and seed\nmilks have 25-200 calories in an 8-ounce serving. Sweetened milks tend to have\nmore calories than unsweetened milks. Nut and seed milks are frequently lower\nin protein than soy or pea protein-based milk unless additional protein is\nadded. Most brands have 1 gram of protein in a serving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"218\" height=\"231\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vrg.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/cashew-milk.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13535\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the milks we looked at have\nvitamin D, calcium, and vitamin B12 added although some products are not\nenriched and not all contain all three of these nutrients.
