The 2019 National Harris Poll Results"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In a national survey commissioned by\nThe Vegetarian Resource Group and conducted online by The Harris Poll among\nmore than 2,000 U.S. adults, we asked the following question in 2016 and once\nagain in March 7-11, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which of the following, if any, best\ndescribes your eating behavior?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I never eat meat, fish, seafood, poultry, dairy, or\n     eggs. <\/li><li>I never eat meat, fish, seafood, or poultry. <\/li><li>I never eat meat, fish, seafood, poultry, dairy, or\n     eggs when eating out or getting takeout, but eat one or more of these\n     foods at home. <\/li><li>I never eat meat, fish, seafood, or poultry when eating\n     out or getting takeout, but eat one or more of these foods at home. <\/li><li>When eating out or getting takeout, I sometimes eat\n     meals without meat, fish, poultry, dairy, or eggs. <\/li><li>When eating out or getting takeout, I sometimes eat\n     meals without meat, fish, or poultry. <\/li><li>None of these. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We considered those who never eat\nmeat, fish, seafood, or poultry; plus those who never eat meat, fish, seafood,\npoultry, dairy, or eggs, as vegetarian. We classified that second category of\nvegetarians who don&#8217;t eat dairy or eggs also as vegan. Because we use the word\n&#8220;never&#8221; and don&#8217;t just ask if a person considers him\/herself\nvegetarian, our numbers may be lower than others. Be wary of comparing to polls\nin other countries that ask if you are vegetarian or vegan, since people may\nself-define differently. We did not ask about honey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Forty-six percent of the U.S. adult\npopulation always or sometimes eats vegetarian meals when eating out.
