Are the ingredients in the\nPfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine of animal origin?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ANSWER:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the United\nKingdom (UK), the vaccine is derived from non-animal products. However, in\nthe United States (US), the FDA has not provided information that can confirm\nor deny whether the ingredients are of animal origin.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drug manufacturing supply\nchain is like a complex web, so we can\u2019t assume that what applies in the UK\nalso applies in the US. Pharmaceutical companies source ingredients from a\nvariety of locations\/companies and also may have more than one manufacturing\nsite for a single drug. To further complicate matters, a product may stop\nin more than one country before the final product is created. Supply\nchains are considered proprietary information. Unless the FDA asks\nPfizer-BioNTech to provide a similar confirmation for US doses, the US consumer\ncannot be certain the vaccine does not contain any ingredients of animal\norigin. Of course,\nthis fact needs to be balanced with the role that the COVID-19 vaccine plays in\nhelping stop the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
