2. Raw foods on Oprah: Karyn, a restaurateur and raw foodist was featured on the Oprah show: Karyn (one name) has been a raw foodist for over 20 years and a vegan for over 30 years. Karyn's cafe has a "raw foodist" menu. As she explained on Oprah, raw foodists don't cook their meals in order to keep the nutrients and enzymes intact. Karyn, who is also the head chef, manages to be inventive without heat. Menu offerings include a wide variety of salads, a veggie burger, meatless meatloaf, juices, and desserts. In addition to the cafe, Karyn's features a gift shop with "products for healthy living" and a day spa offering classes (Pilates, yoga) and therapies. Karyn's is located at 1901 N. Halsted Ave., Chicago, Illinois. Call (312) 255-2011 for more details. Also visit <karynraw.com>.
