In order to produce eggs, laying hens are bred. The male chicks are culled (killed) as male layers do not lay eggs and aren’t the best for the production of meat. This Dutch study looked at knowledge about this practice and alternatives. Of course animal rights advocates and others would suggest just being vegan.
