1) NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Due to the generosity of donors, we awarded $30,000 in college scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Essays about the students' amazing activism can be seen here: [ https://www.vrg.org/student/scholar.htm ]
Thank you so much to Whitney for coordinating 23 volunteers to read the scholarship essays. You can contribute to future scholarships and internships at [ https://www.vrg.org/donate ]
If you know a 2023-2024 high school senior, they can find application details here for next year: [ https://www.vrg.org/student/scholar.htm ]
The deadline each year is February 20th.

The Vegetarian Resource Group will be holding a networking dinner during the annual FNCE meeting of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in Denver.

It was great that former intern Amy Burger from Georgia visited us in Maryland recently. It was fun to meet her in person since due to the pandemic all contact was virtual during her VRG projects as a student.
Here is information about her internship: [ https://www.vrg.org/blog/2021/05/18/my-vegetarian-resource-group-internship-4/ ]
And here is an aticle Amy wrote after completing her internship. [ https://www.vrg.org/journal/vj2023issue1/2023_issue1_vegan_action.php ]

Thank you to Whitney McVerry for taking on the task of posting to VRG's Instagram. See [ https://www.instagram.com/vegetarianresourcegroup/ ]

4) VRG HIGHLIGHTS

The Vegetarian Resource Group was busy during Earth Week. We had booths at Loyola College Maryland, Holistic Wellness and Health Food Justice Event at Impact Hub in Baltimore, Maryland, Maryland/DC Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Annual Meeting, and Wilmington North Carolina VegFest. Thank you to volunteers Whitney Blomquist and Anna Markulis for staffing tables.

Vegan Education
Rissa Miller did a Vegan Living presentation at the Exeter Community Library in Reading, Pennsylvania, and gave out Vegan Journals, Vegan Plates handouts, and food samples.

The Vegetarian Resource Group sent 600 I Love Animals and Broccoli Coloring Books plus El arco iris vegetariano coloring books to PG County Maryland WIC. A nutritionist from a county health department in New Jersey asked to reprint our My Vegan Plate. We sent 800 Vegan Journals for grab bags for the Columbia, South Carolina VegFest and also Sarasota, Florida VegFest. We also shipped 4 boxes of Vegan Journals and VRG handouts to the Vegan Society of Hawaii to be shared at the Climate Fair on the lawn of the Hawaii State Capitol and at the Windward Coast Emergency Preparedness Fair.

Thank you to Whitney McVerry who tabled at Wilmington North Carolina VegFest for The Vegetarian Resource Group. She gave out several hundred of our Vegan Journal.
Besides all the young people, Whitney said a surprising number of elderly people that are now in retirement communities attended. They wanted to share information with other residents about adopting a vegan diet. Many are becoming plant-based as they become older.

For a listing of retirement communities offering veggie food, see: [ https://www.vrg.org/seniors/senior_vegan.php ]
If you know of a retirement community or facility which offers vegan options, please let us know.
